The Chicago Cubs use a wrench on the Big Red Machine
MBL: Wednesday, April 12, 2006, Cincinnati Reds 1
the Chicago Cubs 4, in 9 innings. 39 year old Greg Maddux (soon to be 40) was
the master of his own fate today. The Cubs used the errors committed by the Reds
to their advantage as Dusty played Small Ball, bunts and double steals, stole
the hearts of the Cub
fans.

Tuesday, April 12,
2006 The
Chicago Cubs continued their hot start, derailing the Cincinnati Reds by a final
count of 4-1. In the contest, Chicago was led by a seemingly ageless Greg
Maddux, who toiled six strong innings for the homestanding Cubs. The
thirty-nine year old surrendered a mere three hits and only one
earned run, while waking one and striking out seven over his eight-seven
pitches. Offensively
Michael Barrett once again struck mightily, knocking in three more runs, toting
thirteen on the young 2006 campaign. He got things going in the
first, sending a sacrifice fly to right, scoring leadoff man Juan
Pierre. The
win for Chicago once again tied them for first place with the Houston Astros,
each possessing a 5-2 record in the National League Central
Division. Maybe
the most enjoyable moment of this afternoon affair came in Greg Maddux's
post-game press briefing, who when asked about his thoughts of turning 40 on
Friday stated, "I really don't know, I've never been 40
before." Our thanks to Phil
Meyers for his continued support and contribution to this
site.
